nearing zion
with a swipe of my pass, i entered the southwest side of zion national park. zion canyon is gorgeous! the park scenic roadway brings you along the bottom of the canyon along side the river. i'd love to go back and do some hikes someday. the green trees and red rock and white snow makes it feel almost christmassy.
i left the park through the east entrance. the road climbs up switchbacks all the way out of the canyon. ahhhhh, it's so beautiful!
cool rock formations and colors. plenty of pull outs along the road to take time soaking in the sights.
i just want to stay.
my goal was to drive the five hours down to the grand canyon. there was so much wildlife on or near the roadway, it was ridiculous. i got to see a group of bighorned sheep before i left the park, and other animals that i don't know what they are called. i had to jam my breaks for about eight separate groups of deer through the dark evening. with no moon and long dark two lane rural roads with the speed limits mostly at 65 mph, i really had to pay constant attention!

scattering deer.
drive drive drive. dark dark. stars. long straight and flat roads. oncoming headlights that take several minutes to reach even at highway speeds. steep and winding roads. watch for ice. lose track of how many minutes pass between seeing other vehicles. distant headlight; no; yes; wait; is it in the sky or on land?; flickering reflection?; no it's been minutes and it still is way in the distance; oh; ufo i guess.
i'm getting sleepy. grand canyon please?
