i parked my van about a half mile away from the main downtown area and walked around the city for a little while. it was so sunny and warm! i thought san antonio was pretty great; maybe that's because the riverwalk held it's own. walking along the water in-between buildings was pretty and pleasant. it reminded me of venice.
i also briefly visited the alamo!
the visitor center across the street has a little webcamera...
i called my sister in new jersey and had her see if she could see me on the internet. she could! fun! i pondered standing on my head at the alamo on the webcam. i thought that would be a fun photo to have, but chickened out because of all the other people around. : ( i know, right? what was i thinking!? my practical excuse was that i didn't have anything to protect my head against the hard pavement. plus i didn't want to disturb the park rangers...
but once i got back to my van, i reconsidered, reparked at another meter, grabbed my hat, went back to the alamo, called my sister, informed the ranger, and got on my head! now for the technical logistics of the webcam... apparently, it only took pictures about once every two minutes. i stood on my head until my arms gave out for a whole minute! i'm not sure what observers thought of that, but it must have been rather humorous. however, it didn't get on the internet because my act must have been between shots! ok, redo. on the next try i managed to stay on my head for three minutes straight. during that time i heard one observer say 'nice job!' ha! and.... success!
what a strange, yet fun (and original?) tradition i've gotten myself into.

isn't it weird how we convince ourselves and we feel weird if we change our mind, even if it affects no one but ourselves? Enjoyed the story and pics. :)
ReplyDeleteWOW!! 3 minutes! Awesome! Glad you informed the ranger or he would have been calling for back up to collect the crazy tourist! I bet there were many other people there who took your picture and were waiting for the BIG FINALE! lol! ;-)
ReplyDeleteit was pretty funny. i had my ear buds in and was talking to judi on the phone the whole time, because she was updating her link until i finally updated. being able to talk to judi made it feel like i wasn't out there by myself. ha!
ReplyDeleteI love it!
