gallatin national forest

between my two days in yellowstone, i had to go outside of the park to look for a free place to sleep.  i exited on the norther side, which put me into gardiner montana (state number 45!!).  i took a little while figuring out how i would find a place that was legal.  thankfully i came upon a national forest ranger station.  although it was closed, there was enough information posted on the outside for me to make a plan.

it turned out to be quite easy.  i followed a dirt road up the hill and found a beautiful spot to camp.  it was the best view i'd ever had for a free camping spot.  bellow me was the gardiner town and in the background was yellowstone.  being close to the town i conveniently had cell reception.

the sun was setting and casting beautiful colors in the sky and on the surrounding mountains.

i was in awe and happy.

it was like watching god's 3d canvas as he painted away.

  1. These pictures are wonderfully beautiful! :o) As are the pics in the couple of previous posts to this one. Also, not sure if you remember that guy I told you about who was walking across the U.S., but anyways you guys are actually in the same region of the states, he just made it into Washington and is now headed in a more southeasterly direction to trek into Oregon. Who knows....maybe you will run into him!?
