calgary could be seen 25 miles away.
i got there just before dark. some guy was making money by washing people's windshields at a stop light.
suspecting rain while sleeping at the walmart, i shut my jacket in the door over the window. but the stormy wind blew my jacket up to the roof and my passenger seat got quite soaked. hmm, i was still working on schemes for keeping rain out with the window open.
i went to a random church in the morning - emanuel crc.
the pastor gave a decent sermon on how faith is given as a gift to people for a purpose - to bless the world through them. i got some post-service coffee at the church and struck up a conversation with george who had lived in the area his whole life. he kindly described and drew out how to get to a few city parks when i asked about where i could relax for the day.
so i drove to edworthy park
while enjoying the park, i noticed people in a picnic area playing volley ball. i wondered if they would let me play too. i walked over and watched a game. then when they were remixing their teams, they let me play! it was a lot of fun. after the long and fun game (we played to like 50 or something), they invited me to feast with them. they were a large group of filipinos - the calgary filipino association.
we talked and ate for the next couple hours.
they playfully/seriously suggested i marry one of their single ladies. they were incredibly friendly and fun to be with. rachel, gina, merwin, nora, jo, jim, obette, marinay, susan, charmaine, and many others... what a great group! : )
they packed up a bunch of fruit and bbq'd meat for me to take with me. i helped them wrap up their picnic and said good bye.
