tucked away in the wooded hills of southern oregon lied a spot called tiller. it wasn't hard to find with good directions from my hosts there, but with a long enough blink it could go unnoticed. matt and sarah lived there with their three daughters kyla, joleen, and riley.
i had never met them before, but they were friends of my friend allison who said i should try to see them. they were so much fun to visit! we had great conversations. we ate yummy stuff - like hamburgers from meat they had ground themselves and waffles and a desert treat called hello dollies which was from a family recipe. yum! matt showed me around their property. we drove to an area where they'd like to build a new house.
great place to catch grass hopers.
matt treated me to a ride on his atv. zoom zoom!
we went to his parents house where they happily introduced me to what it's like to use hunting riffles.
they set up a target about 300 yards away - the farthest turn on that dirt road.
and if that box had been an elk, we'd have had lot's of fresh meat.
before leaving town, i went to a potluck dinner at their church and got to talk to some of their friends there and meet a pastor they are considering for their congregation.
during my visit i tried to picture how i'd feel living a lifestyle that's in a tiny town away from the big cities. there are definitely draws to it... and meeting this great family definitely makes me smile at the thought. : ) i was so glad to meet them.
