crater lake national park

i'd been to oregon a couple times before the trip, but had never been to crater lake - one of the big natural attractions in the state.

the lake was such a beautiful blue color, especially the parts that were reflecting the blue ski.  the lake was about 5 miles in diameter and too wide for one photo.

there is a road that circles the 30-plus mile loop around the edge of the crater and offers plenty of vantage points from which to view the lake.

if you visit the lake and are afraid of heights, i guarantee you'll want to drive clockwise around the lake or be on the lake side of the car because the road is build on the steep slope falling away from the rim.  there are no shoulders and not many barriers.

the route passes some nice waterfalls

there were still patches of snow around.  and based on the 15 to 20 foot high poles and signs, it's clear the snow piles high in the winter.

what a beautiful place!  i'm glad i got to see it.
