wanting to get to oregon next, i continued westward through the payette national forest. at a section of downed and cut trees, a foolish oncoming driver almost hit me because he was going way too fast and didn't have good traction on the gravel. as for the roaming cows, i just say "mooooo(ve)" please.
half way out of the forest i noticed a camp ground while passing an off shoot and decided to check it out.
there was no sign for a fee (which was ironic since 'pay' was in the name of the forest) so i pulled in and started a fire to heat up some leftovers which leann had kindly sent with me when i left boise.
while enjoying the fact that my clothes smelled like camping smoke and listening to the mooos of open range cows scattered in the forest, for an extended amount of time before bed i gazed up at the stars that shone brightly between the tree tops. i gave thanks.
in the morning i continued spinning my wheels toward oregon. but only a mile from the camp ground i hit an impass. ummmmm.
exiting the forest on the side which i entered would have been very much out of the way. however, i went back to the camp site and happened to find someone there who was very helpful. he had a map and confirmed an alternate route which went around the road block.
"it's a very very rough road, but i've seen a car on it before." great... more off roading... : ( and i hoped to not get lost. it was mostly steep and mostly pretty rocky.
but eventually i got back to the "main" road.
then, when i got to the highway, i breathed a sigh of relief and cruised toward oregon.
