JerJourneys: deception pass

i got to spend time with my friend emily who just moved to seattle from philadelphia where we originally met. it was actually the third time i'd stayed with her on my trip, in three different houses! yes, she'd moved a lot during my trip.

she lives in a house with several roommates on a nice residential street. we sat on her porch sipping coffee and enjoying the cool, bugless west coast air.

i hoped in the car with emily and we picked up her friend brianna on our way to one of emily's favorite places called deception pass. it was a beautiful place and definitely worth the trip about an hour north from seattle. first we drove across the bridges to find a place to park.

emily was recognizing the edible berries, including these rose hips. i had to trust her on it because i wasn't ready to fall sick on berries before reaching alaska : )

then we spent some time on the rocky beach that can be seen from the bridge.

back at our parking spot we had to deal with a completely flat tire. we shared the work since i don't think any of us had very much experience changing a tire. good time to learn.

ah, such a team building and friend building activity. : )

between emily's having to work and my trying to see various people in the seattle-tacoma area, our time together was rather segmented. one of the evenings i tagged along with emily when she went to a barbeque in a section of town that wasn't super safe. her friend christy lives with a group of people who were purposefully engaging in relationships with their neighbors and the homeless and the prostitutes and whoever else was in that part of town. they had a weekly barbeque open to anyone and were loving people no matter who they were. pretty awesome if were to ask me.

on a different afternoon emily was meeting up with her friends priscilla and i-heng at the volunteer park cafe. i hung with them for a while then did some more catching up on the computer.
