i forced myself up out of bed earlier than usual so i could get on the road with plenty of time to travel through mississippi. i planned out a route that didn't use the interstate and would bring me through coffeeville, mississippi. i just liked the name of the place and figure maybe there was a chance i could get coffee there too.
the back roads where not very busy. cars seemed to drive much faster in mississippi, and i kept pondering alternate uses for the metal which made up the speed limit signs. if the signs are completely disregarded, why even have them there? they'd make great scrap metal.
again the day was damp cold and overcast. i continued to see flooded rivers and fields from recent rain.
after a few hours of driving, i got to coffeeville. yup, just a little town with not much there to see. i don't think i even have any pictures of the place. i certainly didn't find any place to get coffee. oh well. i still like the name.
my path continued down more back roads and small highways. at a rest stop i found this landmark of long ago local land usage...
there is so much random history everywhere i go. usually there is plenty of background info found by googling the matter. it's fun to stop and look at some of the historical markers that happen to be on my path.
i drove all the way from the northern border to the southern border of mississippi. eventually i decided to use i-55 because the day was getting late and plans for new orleans were developing quickly. those plans were generating more excitement and haste to get there.
