the upper peninsula of michigan has many miles of forest. over an hour straight, this is what it looked like.
it felt as remote as parts of canada.
along the lakes is where the real beauty takes form.
i stopped in at pictured rocks national lakeshore. the flies were obnoxious with a nasty bite so i didn't gaze at any of the sites for long - just enough to take a photo and get back into my van. sable falls.
log slide. a good 300 ft drop to lake superior that would have enjoyed running down and climbing back up if it weren't for the annoying bugs. it reminded me of the dune i climbed in the mohave dessert, except there was no water there.
zooming in you can make out the people swimming way down at the bottom.
dirt road was the only way between the two ends of the lakeshore.
overlook of pictured rocks - minors castle.
zoom again for scale, see the people at the bottom?
miners falls
i left the u.p. driving east along lake michigan
then over the mackinac bridge
continuing south through michigan
nifty
