before returning to the usa, i stopped for a visit with some people whom i had never met before. two weeks earlier when i was in michigan visiting markus, he put me in contact with his german friend michael who lives in alberta canada with his lovely wife sigrid and their eleven wonderful children. as a family, they share a powerful testimony of how God has graciously led them through various difficult and challenging situations. i glad i got to meet them!
i felt very comfortable and at home in their tiny two story one bathroom house. the idea of families with almost a dozen children was not novel to me. i love large families! i felt their welcome and their love even as a fairly random temporal addition to their house. the next photo shows a couple of their kids troubleshooting the basic physics of a backyard slingshot - i loved that the girls were anchoring the chairs!
i was determined to know all of their names and after staying two nights on their living room couch, eating family meals, shopping at local thrift stores and going to the pool with them, i think i got them all straight: rebecca, damaris, samara, tim, lucas, racheal, seilas, jessica, josepha, ben, and mirko. they were each so special. here's me with Some of the them. : )
oh, and here's rebecca's "hund" oliver who barked at me only if i got too close to him.
the family members spoke to each other in german. i really enjoyed sitting around the table or picnic bench for meals while listening to them talk in german and only having nonverbal clues as to what they were talking to each other about. conveniently, they also spoke excellent english so we were able to have a lot of meaningful conversation.

i also got to meet their friend arie who stopped bye.
he convinced me to get coffee from a tim hortons and handed me canadian dollars to do it! : ) so i did.
