route 37

the multiple forest fires that forced me to detour around route 37 in british columbia had subsided during my two weeks in alaska, so the route was open again.   it was much more remote than the other way and there were only a few tiny towns and villages along the way.  it's about 450 miles long and connects to route 16 which is another 300 miles before reconnecting to the alternate route.

with lots of curves, no pavement lines, and 5-to-50 foot ditch drops, good attention was essential.

a tractor trailer found the ditch.

later i also saw a pickup truck that had wrecked into the ditch.

i passed through sections where the fire had crossed the road.

there were an abundance of glass-like reflective lakes.

once again, the scale of these mountains is not properly conveyed in any of these photos.
