anchor point and homer

after hiking exit glacier i found pullout on the highway to sleep.   i then continued toward homer...

however i didn't get very far that day - just to a town called soldotna.  i ended up using the internet all day at a safeway there to get various things done including purchasing tickets for hawaii!! - state number 50!  my plan was to drive back down to washington state and fly to hawaii from seattle.  i was so excited!!

i slept at another pullout and once again continued toward homer.

along the way i stopped at anchor point.  that was the farthest west that i could drive in alaska...  in fact, it was the farthest west i could drive in the whole road network that covers the continent - north and south america!

earlier in the summer i was seven time-zones away in st john's newfoundland and had driven about 16,000 miles since then.  yikes!

then i finally made it to homer.  i went out on the spit that you might see in the middle of this photo.

i needed a break from taking photos so i didn't get many there.  but this was the beach where i spent a portion of the day.  i got some more exercise by playing frisbee with the spirit, as i'd done on occasion.
