my van was sick again

a noise that i started to hear on the way from fairbanks to anchorage kept getting worse as i continued to homer.  on my way from homer back to anchorage i was becoming quite concerned.  i figured i better get it checked out, first thing in the morning - especially since it was the saturday before labor day.  i wanted to catch a place that was open before the long weekend.  so i stopped in soldotna again.  i got this service place to take a look at my van.

they told me the bearings were going bad.  what???!!!  again?  yeah, apparently the year and model of my van was notorious for that happening.  no kidding, that was the third (or forth maybe??) time the bearings needed to be replaced during my trip!

oh well.  i hoped the new bearings would last for at least the remainder of my trip's miles.

during the assessment i enjoyed talking to another customer named dan.  an alaskan native, he gave me some ideas for jobs i could look into that would give me the flexibility to travel during long off seasons.

while my van was being worked on i went across the street to the same safeway i'd been at two days before to use the internet again.

something about this sign didn't look quite right.

then, with my van fixed, i drove almost all the way back to anchorage and spent the night in another roadside pullout.
