tybee island, georgia

there is a beach near savannah that is on tybee island.  it is the eastermost point of georgia. i slept at a walmart that was only 15 minutes from the beach, so i could get up early and drive there in time for sunrise.

before i went to sleep, another van with at least two adults and a child parked next to me. they were sleeping too.  they took a few minutes to remove stuff from inside the van and store it on their roof while they slept.  i was glad i didn't have to do that.

my plan worked out perfectly.  i got to the beach just in time for sunrise on the morning of good friday.  the beach was beautiful.  and besides a few annoying insects, everything was really pleasant.  i'll let some of my photos tell the rest of the details...

  1. Looooove your sunrise photos!! :o) And yes, the roller coasters will be ready for you when you get here. Tommy is actually going to be working at Cedar Point all summer long!

  2. Jer,
Not too far from there, between Savannah and Hilton Head Island is an island called Daufuskie. You can only get to it by ferry. It's a small place w/ a population of 430, some of which (I've been told) are the Gullah people - the original natives of the island. It's primarily resort based now, but the Gullah people even spoke their own dialect. I'll be heading down there in late July to check it out. If you have the time it might be worth a stop to visit. Or, it could be lame. If that's the case it wasn't my idea :-)
