amphicar!!!

before i left my uncle and aunt's place, jeff took me and jeni out on a ride we would never forget.  it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that i couldn't believe was going to happen.  but it did!!  remember i said jeff restores old vehicles?  well his most recent project was restoring a cute little red car from the 1960s...

but this is not just any car, it's an amphicar!!!   "amphi"  ie "water." it's a car that you could drive into water because it's also a boat!  yup!  see the propellers?

the amphicar is such a rare jewel, and this particular one is now in the right hands with jeni and jeff because they are the best at caring for old things and making them even more valuable than how they found them.

jeff checking a valve.

whoever owned it before didn't take good care of it, but jeff is restoring this beauty to work the way it was made to work.  i got to be on one of it's first test floats.  it's hard to describe the feeling of driving down a ramp toward the water with a car....  and then all of a sudden your gently bobbing and dragging your fingers in the water!

we worked as a team checking for leaks while out in the water.   the little water that was coming in allowed us to check the bilge pump and backup pump too : )

here we're hitting our own wake

on land

or on water

it was an aaaaaawsome ride!!!

it was a beautiful day in a beautiful car on a beautiful lake with some beautiful people.  : )

definitely a highlight of my trip!  thanks jeni and jeff!!
