man, i'm so glad i got to meet them! : )
these folks really know how to make guests feel at home. : ) i felt both honored and spoiled during my stay. i was very thankful for a room and real bed to hibernate in. and boy did i hibernate!! the first night i didn't get out of bed until after 2pm! i also enjoyed good conversation and easy-going evenings while watching some of the olympics, and was blessed with delicious foods, both at home and when they took me out.
the first night, steak was on the menu. man, so good! while we talked, art and smokey got wind that my birthday was a few days away. after dinner they handed me a cupcake with a birthday candle in it! i was so surprised! i think i can call that my first surprise birthday celebration ever. : )
on another evening, art and smokey took me to their special occasion, very popular southern restaurant called the blue willow inn.
this place had a wonderful atmosphere and is popularly recognized for its excellent traditional southern cooking. it's an all-you-can-eat buffet style menu, so i made good use of my eating skills. i enjoyed everything that i ate, which was a lot, including fruit salad, lemonade, fried green tomatoes, fried chicken, sweetened yams, green beans, banana pudding, peach cobbler, ice-cream and chocolate cake.
during my last evening there, we all got to skype with heather who is still living in philadelphia. that was fun! plus, heather was also nearing her birthday which is the day after mine! yay!
i had such a restful and fun time staying with art and smokey. but after three cozy nights i continued driving south. smokey didn't let me get out of the house without some snacks for the road. so i brought with me some cheese and crackers and some yummy glazed pecans! mmmm
